How can I transfer dollars to an American student in the US?

I have some friends in the US who can help with the project of sending dollars to students studying abroad. They often need more than $5,000 per year because their 1-year visa limit is not enough. I want to send them money from my US bank account and then convert it to RMB for their families in China. The problem is how to transfer the dollars from America to the student's home country. It seems that using a credit card for this would be a big issue since it could be reported as income. Giving cash might also not work as there are many students spread out across all states in the US.
