The Japanese anti-piracy organization, CODA (Cultural Product Overseas Distribution Promotion Agency), reported that over the past three years, 22 Chinese website operators were investigated by the Chinese police for copyright infringement. CODA predicts that the losses from pirated goods in 2022 will amount to around 2 trillion yen. The vice chairman of CODA, Mr. Akiyama Toshio, said, “We have realized the need to expand our network and cooperate with various rights groups worldwide.” Since April 2021, the project has been carried out in China, Brazil, Vietnam, among other countries, investigating 68 websites and apps. Through criminal measures, 50 websites have been shut down. In China, 13 website operators were arrested without authorization to reproduce Japanese animations during January to June 2024. |
