Concerning the Preferred IP issue in CF

It's unclear if the issue lies with my computer or CF. After using a software to select an IP, I tested and it worked momentarily, but as soon as I added it to the hosts file, connectivity failed and dropped packets. Leaving the IP out of the hosts file ensures no packet loss during pinging; however, once it's added, access becomes immediately unavailable.
